For my birthday (that's today!), Mom got me backstage to meet Anton Chelnokov at the Cirque du Soleil show "Varekai." Tension built as I began hoping I wouldn't fall or mis-speak because I was...well...let's be honest with ourselves, mom got me drunk.
Those are really neat pictures, do you have any more? What was he like (I've heard many different remarks about him)? Hope you can e-mail back, please e-mail me at my e-mail adress.

Now that I think about it, I'm curious too! However did your mom manage to get you backstage? Also, he seems awfully nice, taking not just 1 but 3 pics (the last one's terribly cute--it's like he's thinking "ooh, there's a Mom under the tent, gotta be good!"). Another person said he refused to take another picture unless you paid him, but I think he might have been joking. What's your take on the boy?

I heard about that too (the not taking another picture unless he got paid for it). He's asways seemed like the nicest person, but then again it's not right for me to judge since I've never met him.

I went to see Varekai in Houston opening night on January 6th and then I went again Febuary 13 and it was one of the most eye opening and life affirming experiences I ever had. The show had a way of touching my heart and reaching my spirit and I'm definitely in awe. I'm going to see the show again in Austin next week. I read where you posted that your mom got you backstage to meet Anton. I was wondering if you could tell me how she went about doing that. It would mean the world to me! i haven't gone yet to see varekai live but i saw it in DVD and i thought it was amazing what they do. Many people have told me that it is a whole different experience seen it live. You must be definetly thankful in having a mom to take you not only to your favorite show but backstage to meet the artist who are the essence of this show. I hope one day i can do the same. I reccommend you also the other shows that are excellent. Would you email me and tell me more about your experience in circus du soleil and backstage pls? You're sooo lucky! I love Anton ha ha! He is soooo cute!!!!! I don't think I'll ever get to meet him though....I really wanna go watch Varekai in Vancouver this summer but I don't know yet...I watched the DVD though! I wish I could meet him too! .

I am so shocked by all these comments and questions. My take on him? Having lived in Russia now for 1 year, I can safely say he can come off as abbrassive to many people. Seeing him on stage is one thing, but meeting him backstage is quite another. I get to meet the real person. You get to see what he's really like. And, like any normal Russian guy (or regular guy for that matter) they like pretty things. Perhaps this girl who claims he said she would have to pay him was not very attractive to Anton. Or, perhaps he was joking. Or, maybe his agent said he needed to stop taking so many pictures with fans. Afterall, he is getting popular. Though, unless she was terribly unattractive, I can't imagine him saying to pay him unless she had already taken too many pictures. His time is precious. Overall, I think Anton was a wonderful guy, a complete gentleman and everything I had assumed he would be. It can be stressful for someone Anton's age to get so popular so quickly. So, my take: he's a great guy and I am so honored to have met him. Also, of course he smokes. I was shocked the first time I saw, too, but to be honest, I only know a handful of russians that don't smoke. It's the norm here. He's only human. Everyone has flaws. Any other questions? Anton has the most angelic face I've ever seen. His grace and sensibility won me over within the first minutes of watching him on television. I want to see his show in Seattle since I missed him here in Portland. It would be a dear wish come true if I could meet him. Does he have an accent? Do you possibly know how many and which languages does he speak? Someone posted somewhere that he might be leaving the show soon, does anyone know the truth behind this? He does have an accent. A cute russian one, of course. My guess is he speaks at least 3 languages: russian, english and french. Languages are very popular in Russia and many people try and learn as many as they can. I know a russian couple who speak 5 different languages! I wish you the best of luck in seeing him. I am not sure if he is leaving, but he has been a part of the show for a very long time. He wants a break, I am sure. Everyone wants to go home to their home land some time. I know I couldn't wait to come back to america after my year stay in russia.

I went to see the show! Even though we were a little bit late, okay like twenty minutes, it was the most amazing thing i've ever seen on stage, the twins were awesome. I even got really close to one of the Spanish acrobats who do the Icarian games, when trying to get back into the tent at intermision. But I have to say I was a little disappointed. The very first moment I came into the chapiteau, the first thing I noticed was that the person in white wasn't Anton but the new substitute. I guess they are starting to train him now. At the end of the show during the vows I did get a surprise. Anton had been in the Tapis Rouge section during the show taping everything! He was wearing a black shirt, and beige pants and shoes in a very European style, his hair was also longer. It was exciting! He took some applause of his own, and even did a little pirouette, he was beautiful even though I was a long ways up the chapiteau. I was so mad at myself, why didn't I think to mosey over there during intermision?!? I could have met him! I really hope he joins a show later on, he is so amazingly talented, it would be a shame if he didn't do any more shows. Please tell me if he is coming home to Russia soon, my guess is that this was his last appearance in any of the Varekai shows.

Unfortuneately, I do not know if he is returning to Russia. I was assume he wil visit all his family in Moscow, but his mother and father, they have lived here with him when he was young and they were abandoned by the Moscow circus. So, I would think this is kind of like his second home. I am sure he has many things he wants to do (including return home for a while(, but if he stays in Russia, he will have to go into the Army for 2 years (it's law for all men) and if I were him, I would not want to do that. I assume he will either join a different Cirque show after his break (however long it may be) or join a traveling circus in Russia. All the same, I am sure he will be traveling. It's in his blood. He would go stir crazy if he couldn't, I think. Also, so sorry to hear you missed him.
Also, Yesenia, when I met Anton *almost 2 years ago!!! Sheesh* He said to me he would only do the show until it was done in the US. He thought it would only be another year, so you can imagine how tuckered out he must be. Now that the show is continuing to Australia, he is spreading his wings and flying, as it were.
I don't know for sure, but my guess is that it's soon. If they already have the new substitute performing, it must be pretty soon. I wonder what the name of the substitute is.
Anton is nowadays in Russia and is invited to inform in 2 big events to be realized in Germany. The first event treats itself about the Festival of Youth European Circus in November and the second one is the celebration of 20 years of the Feuerwerk Der Turnkunst - Dolce Vita Tour 2007, to realize between ends of December and middle of January, 2007.

The "New Anton" is Mark Halasi, he'[s from some European country I'm not sure of. Does anyone know how to contact him ?? Meaning Anton?? I've heard so many wonderful things about him and I was disipointed when I heard he was leaving. I also talked to a girl who said that he was back in Russia performing in his father's circus. I wish I could have met him though. He is, as many of you have said, gorgeous. Oh any you guys can e-mail me if you want.
